A deputy saw a vehicle that crossed over the yellow lines and was not maintaining its lane of traffic in Southeast at about 12:50 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department reported.

The deputy observed signs of alcohol impairment when speaking to the driver, identified as Brandon Tompkins, of Southeast, authorities said.

Tompkins was arrested after field sobriety tests were conducted, according to the report.

Authorities said Tompkins was charged with:

  • DWI
  • Refusal to take a breath test
  • Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration
  • Drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle
  • Driving to the left of pavement markings

Due to his refusal to take a breathalyzer test, he was held at the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending his arraignment, the Sheriff's Department reported.
